The meristem detection technology is key to the success of CLAWS' weed control capabilities. This allows the robot to identify the growing point of the weed, which is the most sensitive area of the plant, and apply the precise amount of light needed to eliminate it. Through a simple stop-start operation, CLAWS can tackle the large variation in weed density seen across a typical field, whilst ensuring that only the right amount of energy is used across the field. No wasted energy dragging implements through the soil and no wasted energy from carrying excess capacity on-board.
